Son of Adam, Daughter of Eve

Most Christians will tell you that we are all descended from Adam. For a long time I assumed that told people this because they believed Adam and Eve were the only two people to be created and therefore it was up to the only 2 people on the Earth from the beginning to populate the Earth. But then I discovered something...

The creation of man is mentioned twice in first two chapters of the very first book in the bible. First of all in Genesis 1 God makes man in his image, and then after this, after he has described the Earth as it was when it was created in Genesis 2, God forms man again.

This made me very suspicious about the idea that Adam and Eve were the sole 2 people on Earth until they were kicked out of Eden and decided to pro-create. Could it be possible that there were other people on Earth while Adam and Eve were still enjoying the perfect environment of Eden? It is certainly a possibility, one that explains why creation of man is mentioned twice.

If this is true, and if there are Christians that believe this, why then do we still get told that we are descended from Adam and Eve? .... There is one very good reason! And it all comes down to Noah and the flood.

Noah was definitely a descendent of Adam, it says so in a geneology in Genesis 5. Noah was called by God to build an enormous arc, on which at least 2 of every animal (some God ordered more of) would embark upon along with Noah and his sons and their wives, when the flood started.

Here's the catch, the only people on the arc were: Noah, his sons, and their wives.

Because of this any children those wives had would also have been descendents of Noah. Because no-one else survived the flood, and Noah and all his children and their children etc. were descendents of Adam (and Eve), that means that every living human on the Earth is also a descendent of Adam (and Eve).

And therein my mystery was solved.

For Your Reference:

Genesis 1: 26 - Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

Genesis 2:7 - the LORD God formed the man [e] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

I found a short animated movie that I thought you would appreciate. It has a strong theme of working together and uniting, etc.

Also, interesting post :P

When Cain was banished from... I forget. :S But you know what I mean. God said that whoever hurts him will be hurt seven times as much, if my recollection serves me (I should really read it again. >.>)

If Cain was the son of Adam and Eve, and was banished from his family, who would be around to hurt him if there weren't other humans?

Good post. :)
